    Why meta description length matters

Google truncates meta descriptions that exceed roughly 160 characters (or about 920 pixels on desktop). A cut-off description looks unprofessional and hurts click-through rate. This tool measures both character count and pixel width so you can see exactly what will appear in the SERP.

    How to use this tool

    1. Paste or type your meta description.
    2. Watch the live pixel and character count.
    3. Aim for 140–160 characters and under 920px width.
    4. Preview how it looks in Google with our SERP Preview tool.

    Best practices

    • Include your focus keyword naturally (Google may bold it).
    • Write action-oriented copy — think ad copy, not a summary.
    • Keep it unique per page — duplicate descriptions dilute intent signals.

    FAQs

Does Google always show my meta description?

No. Google rewrites descriptions about 60–70% of the time based on the search query. A great description still improves your odds significantly.
